Description:112 Church Lane was purchased towards the end of 1970 for use as a children’s home. After being adapted, it was opened in the early 1970s.
It was a three storey building about 60 years old when it was bought by the Council.
On the ground floor it had a porch entrance, vestibule, hall, dining room, lounge, larder, breakfast room, and kitchen. On the first floor there were four bedrooms plus a bathroom and toilet. On the second floor were two more bedrooms and a billiard room. Outside was a garage, laundry, conservatory, coalhouse and toilet.
The building had accommodation for 10 children – boys and girls.
The children’s home closed in August 1986, its function merging with that of Milton Grange.
112 Church Lane was not the only children’s home on Church Lane – there was another farther down the road between 1961 and 2001.
