Description:Mary Cottrell was the first female Labour councillor for Birmingham Corporation and was a leading figure of co-operative women’s guilds, both with <a href="http://www.search.suburbanbirmingham.org.uk/engine/resource/default.asp?resource=1926">TASCoS</a> and regionally. She also became the first woman board member of the Co-operative Wholesale Society and was a government advisor on equitable rationing systems during World War Two (see also <a href="http://www.search.suburbanbirmingham.org.uk/engine/resource/default.asp?resource=1789">'Thomas Hackett: Politician, Co-operator & Advocate for Adult Education'</a>).
