Description:Recruitment in Eire 1951

This report reflects a major aspect of Birmingham’s dependence on immigrant labour in the 1950s and beyond.1 Key sectors became associated with the Irish workforce, including transport, education, health and construction. By 1965, one in six Birmingham births had an Irish parent,2 reinforcing the Irish contribution to the City over generations.
