Description:Recruitment in Eire 1951

This report reflects a major aspect of Birmingham’s dependence on immigrant labour in the 1950s and beyond.<sup><small>1</small></sup> Key sectors became associated with the Irish workforce, including transport, education, health and construction. By 1965, one in six Birmingham births had an Irish parent,<sup><small>2</small></sup> reinforcing the Irish contribution to the City over generations.
