Description:This photograph was taken some time after Birmingham City Transport abandoned it’s ‘colour bar’ in 1954 (see <a href="http://www.search.suburbanbirmingham.org.uk/engine/resource/default.asp?resource=1923">'Transport Workers in South-West Birmingham'</a>). Immigrants often chose to record their status and success and Ernest Dyche took numerous photographs which would be sent home by his sitters.<small>1</small> As migrants became established in Birmingham, Dyche recorded weddings, other landmark occasions and social gatherings.<small>2</small>

<font color="#666633"><small>1 The Ernest Dyche Studio was active between c.1905 and 1990, initially at 32 Coventry Rd, Bordesley and from 1913 at 354 Moseley Rd, Balsall Heath.
2 Many social photographs were taken under the banner of ‘Theatrical, Clubland and Home Photographers’.
