Description:While the later 1950s would be characterised by Harold MacMillan’s assertion that ‘you’ve never had it so good’, <a href="http://www.search.suburbanbirmingham.org.uk/engine/resource/default.asp?resource=1838">'Austerity Britain’</a> lasted well into that decade. This ration book was allocated to a resident of Harborne and bears retailers’ stamps for George Mason, Grocer, Harborne, and A. Thomason, Family Butcher, Bearwood Road.
