Description:Families were often larger than today, and the death of one parent often resulted in extended step-families. George Cadbury had five children with his first wife Mary Tylor: George junior and Edward seen here standing at the back, Isobel and Eleanor sitting, and Henry sitting on the floor in front. Mary died in 1887 and George married Elizabeth Taylor in 1888. They had five children together and this photograph was taken shortly after the birth of Norman, seen on Elizabeth’s lap. George is holding Laurence, born the previous year, on his lap. Dorothea, Egbert and Marion were born after this photograph was taken in 1892, 1893 and 1894.
