Description:William Smedley-Aston (1868-1941) was an Arts and Crafts photographer. His wife Irene is shown here with two of their children, Michael and Rosemary. The couple were friends with other members of the Birmingham Group of artists, such as Joseph Southall and Arthur Gaskin. Irene featured as a model for some of these other artists as well as for her husband. Michael was born in 1912 and later became a well-known film producer, whilst Rosemary who was born in 1907 became a medieval historian.
