Description:Many upper middle class and wealthier families had nurses or governesses to take care of the children. Children often grew very attached to these women and sometimes had a closer relationship with them than with their parents. It has not been possible to identify either the children or the nurse in this photograph. The blurring is caused by the children moving during the long exposure time that was required to take a photograph.
