Description:The conditions in which children lived depended on their social class and the economic circumstances of their family. Children from well off families lived in comfortable homes surrounded by their possessions. Poor children lived in much smaller, and often overcrowded and unhealthy, back-to-back houses. Over the 20th century there have been a number of attempts to improve housing conditions by demolishing poor housing and moving families out to suburban estates such as Weoley Castle. Organisations such as Bournville Village Trust and Shelter intervened to try and influence housing policy and improve the conditions in which poor children lived.
