Date:1912

Description:Alice Cumbley was at Birmingham Institution for the Blind in the early 1900s. The Institution kept detailed records for each child from admission to leaving. No concessions were made due to disability. All children had to accept discipline in order to prepare them for the adult world. Alice Cumbley was clearly a strong willed teenager, being caned on three separate occasions in 1912.
