Description:The Tale of Peter Rabbit was the first of twenty-two ‘little books’ written and illustrated by Potter, with many of them featuring her own pets—Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, and Samuel Whiskers. Animal stories were thought to appeal to both girls and boys. Books such as Black Beauty (1877), The Jungle Book (1894), The Wind in the Willows (1908) and Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), as well as Potter’s books, continue to be popular today.
