Description:Early pop-up books were created for adults rather than children. It was not until the 18th century that these techniques were applied to books designed for children. They were generally expensive and aimed at wealthy families. Dean and Son was the first publisher to produce moveable books on a large scale in the 19th century. It was not until the 1930s with the work of S. Louis Giraud in London that moveable books were sold for modest prices. A popular series of moveable books were designed by the Czech Voitech Kubasta in the 1950s and 60s. Since the 1960s a range of designers, paper engineers, and illustrators have worked with publishers to produce more and more elaborate pop-up books for the children’s market.
