Dear Dad, Dear Aunty,

It has been 3 days since I last wrote to you both, but so much has happened, I don’t know where to begin. I am coping well with the language, I am not learning English, but Birminghamish. The food at home is good. (For example, for breakfast 3-4 cups of tea with milk, 3-5 slices of bread with butter and jam. Midday in the canteen (also good): soup (similar to fish guts soup, approximately ½ litre), 1 penny, desert (in England every pastry desert is similar to our strudel) 3 pence. In the evening at home: meat and two vegetables, pineapple compote. But please don’t be misguided into thinking that I am completely content. I pay for example…[end]
