Description:The Sparkbrook Association's interest in child development and welfare led to the opening of a number of playgroups. Playgroups were places mothers and fathers could bring their children to play alongside others and could release them from the cramped conditions of their domestic environments.

By 1965 the Sparkbrook Association had opened 4 playgroups partly financed by the Save the Children Fund at 6 Braithwaite Road, the Baptist Church Hall on Stratford Road, Emmanuel Church Hall on Golden Hillock Road and the Welfare Centre on Farm Road.

The photograph above shows two children at one of the Association's playgroups at the Baptist Church Hall which was opened in June 1963.
