Joseph Sturge was a nineteenth century antislavery campaigner living in Birmingham. Near the end of his life, he created a free labour plantation on the isle of Montserrat. A 'Montserrat Company' would exist until the twentieth century. Enter 'Montserrat' in the search facility for more photographs.
