Description:Copy of an early Jewish sermon by M. Raphall, preacher of Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, Birmingham between 1840-1849 who later emigrated to America. The preface of the sermon states 'The following Discourse was composed at the request of Rev. Hugh Hutton, M.A., Minister of the Congregation of Christian Unitarians assembling in the Old Meeting House, Birmingham; who was desirous of placing before his hearers, an authentic Jewish statement of the doctrine of Divine Unity, as an evidence that the Jews neither entertain the the ideas of a plurality of persons in the godhead, nor regard any portion of their Scriptures as favourable to such an opinion. It was first preached by the author in the Synagogue of Birmingham, on the commemoration Sabbath of the Martyrs of Israel, April 27th, 5606 (1844) [...].
