Description:There are currently few available images of the powerful women who worked for local women's antislavery societies. This image of Hannah Sturge (wife of Joseph Sturge) with one of her daughters seated on her lap can be found in 'Sophia Sturge, A Memoir' by William Hughes (1940). Notably, the next generation of Sturge women would continue to be strident activists into the early twentieth century.
