Description:Vaisakhi is an important festival in the Sikh religious calendar which both celebrates the Sikh new year and commemorates the founding of the Khalsa ('community of the pure') by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.

This photograph, taken from the archive of the Council of Sikh Gurdwaras MS 2303, shows the Khalsa March from Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Sparkhill to Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr, Birmingham to celebrate the festival of Vaisakhi in 1999.

Images of the Sikh community can also be found in the archive of photographer Sukhvinder Singh Ubhi (MS 2265) who documented the Vaisakhi celebrations of 1993 and 1999.
