Description:Sydney was the son of Francis Clayton, a navvy, and his wife Selina. The family were living in a ‘Gipsy’s Tent’ in Queen’s Head Lane, Handsworth when he suffered an accident. On the morning of 30th of March Sydney was being nursed by his 12 year old sister Prudence by the fire in the tent when she dozed off to sleep. Sydney fell out of her arms into the fire. His mother carried him into Handsworth and then took him by cab to Birmingham General Hospital where he died from his injuries.
