Description:Black History Month is celebrated so that we can better understand and appreciate the lives, experiences, and contributions of both black and diverse communities within the city and beyond.
Black History Month in Birmingham is a celebration of Caribbean, Asian and African cultures past and present. It is an opportunity to learn about the complex interwoven histories and identities that have come to shape the city, and the nation as it is today.
It is important to celebrate and promote all heritages and histories. To do that, we need to also draw attention to and learn about those histories that are not as well promoted or understood. Black History Month is an opportunity and platform for doing this.
Black History Month Profiles is an exhibition celebrating the lives and contributions of those from Black and Diverse backgrounds. It is an exhibition that we hope will grow as more and more profiles are added to over the years. If you have a suggestion for a profile we should add, then get in touch…
