Description:My name is Shirley Hylton and I was born in the Parish of Hanover in Jamaica. I received my education up to Elementary in secondary school. After leaving school I went to learn sewing, but I did not like this much and left to learn typing. However, before I could finish the course I got married and left to live in England in 1960. I was happy living in Jamaica as I had enjoyed a good, decent life based on a good and solid Christian faith. My father was a Deacon in the Methodist Church in the Parish of Hanover in Jamaica.

After living in England I grew to love and enjoy it very much. I raised my family and stayed at home to care for them as I placed family care and values first. I began work for British Rail for many long years right up to my retirement in 2000. Then I started ICT courses with the WEA at their study club in Newtown and as a result I have become a ‘Techno Elder’.

The ‘Techno Elders’ are supported by the Workers Educational Association, West Midlands. The learning has been very interesting, important in social aspects and allowed me to achieve many different skills. All of my tutors have been very kind and have helped me towards my lifelong learning. God bless all of you.
