Description:My name is Kathleen Thomas and I am 76 years old. I was born in Jamaica in the parish of St Ann, in the district of Watt Town. I came to England in 1960 to join my husband. I really missed my own family back home. The weather was so cold here in England.

My first job here was at a laundrette in Bearwood, Birmingham. I worked there for about four years. I also worked at GKM which was an electrical factory that made car parts. After my retirement I went to America for 18 months and spent time with some of my relatives. I have lived in Smethwick, Birmingham for over 48 years. I had seven children but unfortunately two died.

I love attending all of my ICT projects with the Workers’ Educational Association in Newtown. I like to keep myself busy and enjoy the company of my friends. My health is not as good as it used to be but I still carry on with my lifelong learning.
