Description:Report from the Birmingham Journal describing the court appearance and conviction of John Thompson ‘a man of colour’ for drunk and disorderly conduct, 18 June 1864. Two important battles of the American Civil War were fought at Bull’s Run in July 1861 and August 1862. Two or three years later John Thompson was living in Birmingham.
