Description:Children are grouped around Caroline Bishop at her kindergarten. From their clothes it is clear that the children are from middle class homes. The ‘Kindergarten’ was the earliest form of the modern nursery school and was developed by the German educationalist Friedrich Froebel (1782-1852). Froebel attached great importance to the creativity of the child. Miss Bishop trained at the Pestalozzi-Froebel Haus in Berlin.
