Description:This article reports the arrival of 36 children from Birmingham Children’s Hospital at the Alpine Home for Children in Davos, Switzerland in 1932. It was believed that the health of children suffering with chest infections would improve if they were removed from the polluted air of cities to the clean air of the mountains. Swiss born Christian Kunzle (1879-1954) used profits from his Birmingham confectionary business to build the convalescent home. Children who were recovering at the home when the Second World War broke out were unable to return to England until the war ended.
