Description:Performance played an important role in consolidating a sense of community and identity for migrants. Many cultural performances were organised by the Indian Workers Association, including those for Jagmohan Joshi Day- a memorial to the late General Secretary- and 'Martyrs Day.' Performances often included patriotic and revolutionary songs, poems, music and plays.
This flyer, which dates from the 1960's, provides details of Indian Independence Day celebrations, organised by the Birmingham branch of the IWA, at the Midland Institute.
