Description:My name is Joanne but everyone calls me Jo. I am the cleaner at St George’s Church and I am also the Youth Club leader. I have been involved with Splish and The Zap Club. I have done a number of jobs in my time and previously worked as a cook for Sporting Edge Independent School. That is a school that is housed here at The Church Centre and is run during term time only. I have lived in Newtown for 12 years so I know quite a lot about the area although I lived in Great Barr before.
When I first moved Newtown I was wary and apprehensive as there were a lot of muggings and crime. However, I got to meet a lot of people, made a lot of new friends and met a lot of children at youth club, so I know a lot of the local community and I do feel much safer here now. I got married, at St George’s Church and I am really proud to still be a part of it. I was baptized and confirmed at Aston Parish Church, which isn’t all that far away. I feel that the area has changed a lot since I first came here, it has improved in my opinion but a lot more can be done to make change although it will take a lot of work. I would like everybody in the area to feel safe and secure.
