Description:My name is Caroline and I am a Priest at St George’s Church, previous to this I was a teacher and also worked as an administrator in an events management company. I have done a variety of jobs in my life so far.

I know some history about the church and that it has been running since the mid 19th century. Before this church centre building that we are now standing in, it was a Victorian building and it was not on this site, but across the road from The Post 16 Centre. I also know that that opposite the Post 16 Centre building there is an archway which was part of the original church building; it leads into the park now.

When I was younger, in Newtown there were a lot of Irish people and then the population changed in the 50s and 60s. This is when a lot of Caribbean people came to England and some moved into Newtown they were called the ‘Windrush Generation’. I also know that many years ago, Newtown was full of back to back houses, these are terraced houses a bit like ‘Coronation Street’ houses, but it wasn’t called Newtown then, it was called Hockley/Aston.
