Description:This opened as a children’s home in 1965. It was not purpose-built but a modified, existing house in Edgbaston. It was thought that the purchase of this building (along with two other buildings) together with eight new family homes would ultimately replace Erdington Cottage Homes. This children's home initially had capacity for 18 children.

When it opened, all the existing staff and residents (16 boys and girls) were moved into it (on 12th May 1965) from Southview, one of the homes in the Erdington Cottage Homes complex. The house parents were David and Maude Whitton who lived there with their children. They were also joined by their deputy, Eirian Lloyd.

In 1979, the number of children in the home was reduced to 16. The reduction in the numbers of children in each of Birmingham's children's home was common at this time, not simply to lessen the number of people there but also to increase the amount of space available for the children to play and study.
