Description:This register records the names and other basic factual details about the children who are coming to live in the cottage homes and what happens to them when they leave. This record and similar records for other children’s homes in Birmingham at this time was created for the specific purpose to record admissions into the home. These type of official records did not generally record background information on children, personal experiences or feelings. Questions to think about: Have a look at the register for the children’s home. What information can you find out from the register? Are there boys and girls in the home? How long did children stay in the home? What age were the children in the home? Why did they leave the home? Why do you think some of the information is missing?
