Description:It was acknowledged that no attempt was being made in the Pageant’s opening episode to show an accurate historical sequence of events, ‘but rather to symbolize the successive stages in the advance of law and order’. Prehistoric cave-dwellers followed the fire-breathing, smoke-belching dinosaurs, merging into Druids, complete with young girl to be sacrificed (the crowd would cheer excitedly every night as she escaped).
