Description:The event is attended by towns people on foot, wealthy citizens and the owners of nearby estates in carriages of all kinds. All are dressed in their best, laces and ribbons flutter in the breeze, ladies in crinolines are assisted out of their carriages and wander about among the people, greeting each other, and gathering into little groups.

The Mayor of Birmingham arrives with the the town clerk and members of the council. The crowd look on expectantly as excitement grows. A burst of cheering is heard in the distance, gathering in volume as a company of mounted Police appear, followed by the escort of the 10th Hussars and by an open carriage containing an obviously happy Victoria and her Prince Consort.
