Description:Leaflet appealing for money to continue the Belgian School, June 1918
Although some of the Belgian children attended local schools, the ‘Ecole Belge’ or Belgian Primary School opened in Birmingham on 14 February 1916. It was founded to educate the children along Belgian lines in their national languages by Belgian teachers so that they would not be behind with their schooling when they returned home. By 1918 the school had over 200 refugee pupils in attendance.
