Description:The 'First Report' of the Ladies Society For The Relief of British Negro Slaves(1825)bore on its front cover the female figure of a slave seeking justice. A significant number of other archives also left by this prominent abolitionist society include: a handwritten minutes book running from 1825 until 1852; two large collections of yearly reports that run from 1852 until 1919, taking the form of short printed booklets; and some additional ‘cash books’ which provide more financial information on the society. Together, these archives identify members, fundraising tactics and accounts. They show the progression of the society over nearly a hudred years of antislavery activism.
