Description:No Time for Flowers
This image, from the ‘No Time for Flowers’ exhibition housed at Walsall Art Gallery, was taken when Burke took the opportunity to visit South Africa for the release of Nelson Mandela. Experiencing obstacles and delays, he made it only after the release, and spent his time attempting to capture the "strength, vitality and resilience of Black South African life under Apartheid".
A young woman was asked a question by Burke as to why the streets in the township were not decorated with flowers or shrubbery. The girl replied; “We have no time for flowers.”
