The main branch of the organisation, All-African People’s Revolutionary Party also organised an African Liberation Day. This material gives us insight into the local and global connections of black political activity within our communities, as well as the strength and popularity of Pan-African discourse during the period between the 1960s up until, and beyond, the late 1980s.
This organisation is one of an example of many community based black socio-politically motivated groups, including; Birmingham’s Pan-African Congress Movement, responsible for the African Liberation Days in Birmingham. African Liberation Day, 1977 at which Vanley Burke captured one of his most famous images, the sea of black faces facing one direction in Handsworth Park.
