Description:As this document shows, whilst the Jewish community was beginning to become more involved in the civic life of the town, this development was not without its opposition. A Birmingham auxillary of the 'Society for Promoting Christianity Among the Jews' became active in the year 1846. Its members would include some of the radical non-conformist Christians of the 'Birmingham Anti-Slavery Society'. They were unlikely to have been successful in converting Jews who had been practising their faith in Birmingham for generations.
