Description:BIRMINGHAM’S SOLIDARITY Birmingham Broadside November 1977 MS 1591 Paul Mackney Collection This image reflects both traditional and emerging aspects of the local labour movement. The report of the Birmingham pickets at Grunwick, the reminder of past workers’ solidarity at Saltley Gate and the report of the Birmingham Trades Council support for ‘Grunwick’ are all in the mould of mainstream trades union approaches to protest. Yet the magazine itself was part of a more modern, holistic campaigning movement that focused on a wide range of social and political matters such as racism and feminism that were broadening the labour movement’s agenda beyond the purely economic and industrial relations arena.
