Description:Birmingham has long been associated with arts and culture. Since the 18th century the city has been home to writers, musicians and artists, and a centre for cinemas, theatres and concert halls which have attracted international performers.

Katherine Bradley (1846-1914) and her niece Edith Cooper (1862-1913) collaborated under the pseudonym Michael Field on a number of poetic dramas with historical and mythical subjects, one prose play and eight volumes of verse. Both women were Birmingham born and well educated. They address a range of concerns about women’s independence and different models of love and sexuality.
