Description:Issue of 'The Outpost'marking the first Birmingham Pride in 1997.

The Birmingham Pride Festival is the largest free gay and lesbian event in the UK, attracting over 100,000 visitors to Birmingham from all over the world.

The festival takes place in the city’s gay village over the May Bank Holiday weekend. It launches with a carnival parade from Victoria Square through the city to Hurst Street, with processions of flamboyant carnival floats and fancy dress. The Pride weekend also includes a street festival incorporating funfair rides, street entertainers, mini-stage arenas featuring live acts and DJs and numerous commercial and charity stalls selling goods and offering information, advice, help and support to members of the gay community. Organized and funded by the Birmingham Gay Business Partnership, the event generates about £10million for the local economy.
